Legal intelligence.AI assists. Attorneys decide.

Codira ESQ is a workspace for building a case from the record. It organizes the file, proposes work and checks what AI writes against the documents, while every decision stays with counsel.

Formerly DocketIQ

Codira ESQ’s own agents and checks, drawn in code. Example work.

Codira ESQ keeps four things apart that legal work too often blurs: what is alleged, what is in the file, who knows what, and what is missing. Pleadings, documents, testimony, attorney assessments and AI suggestions are stored separately, so a reviewer always knows which is which.

It runs in the browser and as a signed desktop app for Mac and Windows. Specialist agents read the record and propose work, rules in code check every answer before anyone sees it, and nothing enters the record until an attorney accepts it.

Who it is for.Attorneys and the teams around them.

Built for law firms: attorneys, paralegals and administrators, with limited roles for clients, experts and witnesses. Each practice area has its own screens and its own agents.

The problems it addresses.Building a case means trusting the record.

Legal work fails quietly when allegations are treated as evidence, originals can't be shown to be unaltered, gaps go unnoticed and AI output can't be traced to its source. Codira ESQ is designed around those failures.

Allegation Versus Evidence

Pleadings, documents, testimony, assessments and AI suggestions are kept apart, never merged into one undifferentiated file.

Proving Originals

Every file is fingerprinted with SHA-256 on arrival, and its integrity can be checked at any time.

Knowing What Is Missing

Gaps, record completeness and facts with no supporting document are surfaced instead of discovered at trial.

Core capabilities. The case, the record and the work in one place.

Matters

Firm, client and case, with access granted per case and ethical walls that apply to people and to AI alike.

Evidence

Any file type, a fingerprint and a code for each document, duplicate detection, OCR on request, and Bates stamping with load files.

Case Assistant

Questions about the case answered as supporting, contradicting and missing, with every statement tied to the record.

Authority

Codira's own hosted copy of CourtListener public-domain case law, the U.S. Code and the federal rules. Citations are written by a citation engine, never by AI.

Composer

A drafting word processor with templates and court formats, exporting to Word, PDF and a filing package.

Contradictions and Timeline

Conflicting statements paired with their sources, and a timeline that records how precise each date is and never infers one.

How the orchestration is applied.Specialists that propose. Attorneys who accept.

Each practice area has its own specialist agents, each with a narrow job. New uploads are read in the background for dates, links and transactions. Everything an agent proposes goes to a review queue, and only a person's acceptance, logged against that person, enters the record.

Some of the litigation specialists, in the order a case tends to need them.

  1. 01PleadingReads the complaint for its claims and parties.
  2. 02ElementsProposes a status for each element of each count, for counsel to decide.
  3. 03EvidenceFinds what in the record supports or contradicts a statement.
  4. 04TimelinePlaces events in order with the precision the record supports.
  5. 05ContradictionPairs statements that conflict, with their sources and severity.
  6. 06GapLists what the record is missing.

Verification and governance.Every answer is checked against the record.

Code checks each AI answer before anyone sees it, and a second, independent reviewer can lower a verdict but never raise one. "Verified" means the quotes and details were found in the cited records. It does not mean the claim is true, and the product says so.

  • A quotation appears word for word in a cited record, or the answer is caught.

  • A date, amount or number appears in the cited sources, or the answer is caught.

  • A citation outside the case is discarded.

  • Wording that states a conclusion is caught unless it is framed as an allegation.

  • A drafted brief never contains a citation written by AI; placeholders mark where authority belongs.

Accepting a suggestion that failed a check needs a written reason, and the override is audited.

Integrations

Connections that bring the record in and take the work out, each listed with its status today.

  • CourtListener case law

Hosted by Codira, so legal research never sends a search to an outside database. Refreshed quarterly.

  • Clio

Practice-management connection, live today. Other systems are planned.

  • Microsoft 365 mail

Read-only access to bring email into the record.

  • Exports

LEDES 1998B, CSV, Word, Excel and PDF, plus a full case export with an index.

Security and data

Controls that keep privileged material where it belongs. Statements here describe how the product works today.

  • Privilege decided by counsel

Privilege and confidentiality classifications, including Attorneys' eyes only, are set by people. A flagged document cannot be produced.

  • Access and ethical walls

Per-case roles and ethical walls that also exclude screened documents from AI, with an append-only audit log.

  • Hosting and backups

Hosted in the United States, encrypted in transit and at rest by the hosting providers, with nightly backups kept for 35 days.

  • Leaving

After a subscription ends, the workspace stays readable for 30 days, and a full case export is available throughout.
