AI-native software engineering.Specialists write it. You decide it.

Codira IDE is a desktop coding environment for real projects. Describe a change and specialist agents plan it, write it and check it; you see a diff, and nothing is written to your files until you apply it.

Codira IDE’s own agents and checks, drawn in code. Example work.

AI writes code quickly, and it also makes mistakes. Codira IDE answers that by sending each change through separate checks before an engineer sees it, then building, testing and verifying the result after it is applied. Every AI apply is checkpointed, so it can be undone in one click.

It runs on the Mac (macOS 11 or later, Intel and Apple Silicon), signed and updating itself, with a Windows 10 and 11 version also available. It works on a real project folder in any framework, alongside an editor, a terminal, git tools and a live preview.

Who it is for.Built for people who build software.

For working developers who read diffs, technical founders and teams that want AI changes held to one standard. Plain-language helpers make it approachable for people newer to code.

  • Engineering teams
  • Technical founders
  • Agencies and SaaS teams
  • Unfamiliar codebases
  • People learning to build

The problems it addresses.Producing code is only part of the job.

The hard parts of AI-assisted engineering are the mistakes that look right, the tests that report success without running, the change that can't be undone and the codebase nobody on the team wrote. Codira IDE is designed around them.

Plausible Mistakes

Each change passes through separate review, security and rule-based checks before you decide whether to apply it.

False Greens

An independent Verifier reads the real build and test output, and can never report Verified when a command failed.

Changes You Can Undo

A Time Machine checkpoint is taken before every AI apply, so any change can be rolled back in one click.

Core capabilities.A complete engineering environment around the agents.

Ten Specialist Agents

A fast single-agent mode for everyday work, and an Orchestrate mode that runs the full pipeline when a change deserves it.

Six Patch Guards

Rule-based checks, using no AI, that catch deletions, missing references, needless rewrites, placeholders, dropped exports and design-system breaks.

Apply Decision

One recommendation above the diff that sums up every agent and guard: Ready to apply, Apply with care, or Don't apply yet.

Project Comprehension

/understand builds a written understanding of the codebase; facts come from your files, and suggested patterns are checked against the code.

Architect and Visual Editor

Stack, schema and design-token tools, and a canvas where clicking an element in the live preview edits its real source file.

Integrated Workflow

Editor, terminal, git, live preview, the ⌘K composer and optional autocomplete in one desktop app.

How the orchestration is applied.Plan, write, review, secure, test, verify.

In Orchestrate mode a change moves through specialists in a fixed order before you see it. After you apply it, Codira builds the project, runs the tests and a smoke check, and hands the result to an independent Verifier. The default Freestyle mode uses one agent for speed, then offers to harden the change with the full pipeline.

Other specialists audit a codebase, explain unfamiliar code, review UX and diagnose failures.

  1. 01PlannerTurns the request into a plan across the files it touches.
  2. 02ImplementerWrites the change as a diff, never directly to your files.
  3. 03ReviewerReviews the diff and the guard findings, and can send it back.
  4. 04SecurityChecks for vulnerabilities; a high or critical finding blocks any automatic apply.
  5. 05QAChecks the change for missing tests and edge cases.
  6. 06VerifierReads the real build and test output after apply and reports what actually passed.

Verification and governance.Checks that don't depend on a model's judgment.

The six patch guards are written in code and use no AI. Their findings feed the Reviewer and the apply recommendation, and the most serious ones force a change to be revised. Every command Codira runs for you is classed as safe, needing approval or blocked, and AI file access is confined to the project folder.

  • A change references only files and names that exist, or it is flagged.

  • A small change edits what it needs to, not the whole file, or it is flagged.

  • Placeholder code is caught before you apply, never shipped silently.

  • A high or critical security finding blocks any automatic apply.

  • The Verifier can never report Verified when a build or test command failed.

Every change is shown as a diff, and every AI apply is checkpointed.

Integrations

The tools Codira IDE works with today.

  • Git and GitHub

Works with any git remote; repositories and pull requests are created through the GitHub CLI.

  • AI models

Anthropic, OpenAI, Google Gemini, xAI Grok and DeepSeek, paid with credits or with your own keys, which go straight to the provider.

  • Jira Cloud

Connects with an API token to bring issues into the work.

  • Deploys

Direct deploys to Vercel, and hand-offs to Netlify, Render, Railway and Cloudflare Pages.

Security and data

What the app sends, and what stays on your machine. Statements here describe the current release.

  • What goes to the AI

The prompt and the code context a task needs go to the chosen model provider. The credits gateway stores token counts and cost, not prompts or responses.

  • Keys and sign-in

API keys, your sign-in and integration tokens are kept in the macOS Keychain.

  • Contained file access

The agents' file tools are confined to the project folder, and commands are classed as safe, needing approval or blocked.

  • Crash reports only

Anonymous crash reports, which you can turn off, and no usage analytics.

The future of software engineeringis engineers and agents, working together.

Codira IDE is built on the view that AI should make engineers faster without making their software less reliable, with an architecture that keeps every change visible, checked and reversible.
